In what will be a showcase of Newcastle icons, Newcastle Racecourse have announced The Screaming Jets will be performing at this year’s The Newcastle Herald Hunter Race Day on Saturday the 16th of November.
The event, which is in its sixth year in 2024, is the region’s most prestigious race day featuring The Hunter’s own $1 million race.
Speaking on behalf of Newcastle Racecourse, CEO Duane Dowell said there could not be a ‘better’ band to perform at the event.
“The Screaming Jets, like the Newcastle Racecourse, are deeply rooted in The Hunter and Newcastle,” said Mr Dowell.
“The band members are considered local legends and have become a part of Newcastle’s identity. Their ability to resonate with the people of our town provides the perfect atmosphere for The Hunter, which is Newcastle Racecourse and our region’s most significant racing event for the year,”
Since its inception in 2019, The Hunter has grown in stature and attracts leading trainers, jockeys and horses from around the nation.
“There’s nothing better than the crowd roaring as some of Australia’s best horses thunder down the straight, followed by their cheers for one of Newcastle’s most well-known bands.” Dowell continued.
In addition to The Screaming Jets, there will be a range of other entertainment at the event, including a TAB lobby and Glam Cam, Myer Pamper Station and Fashions on the Field.
The Screaming Jets have been an enduring force in the Australian music landscape for over three decades and lead singer of the band, David Gleeson, agrees wholeheartedly with Mr. Dowell’s comments on The Screaming Jets providing the perfect backdrop for Newcastle’s own race.
“You don’t get more perfect than two iconic things together, The Screaming Jets and Newcastle Racecourse,” Dave Gleeson said.
“Come along, have a punt, enjoy a day at the races and see the Screaming Jets go off.”
