Newcastle Preview - Saturday 20 May

Race 1 Newcastle Herald 2yo Maiden Plate 900m

Local filly One Invincible Cat is on debut following an impressive Newcastle trial win last week. She is bred for speed and she was unextended in the narrow trial win.

Miss Antares is another first starter and she led all the way for an easy Kembla trial win recently.

Star Bay looked good in winning an open Muswellbrook trial three weeks back.

4 Star Boy

Race 2 Gilbert & Roach Newcastle 2yo Maiden Plate 900m

Pymble is a speedy colt with sound credentials for this race. He led in two Metropolitan starts when just behind the placegetters and he had to work early when a beaten favourite at Gosford last start. The short course is ideal and he has blinkers for the first time.

Miss Casier led when placed over this trip two weeks back and she will be in the firing line from the soft draw.

Ultramarine trialled nicely for his first up run.

2 Pymble

8 Miss Casier

5 Ultramarine

Race 3 New Age Air Conditioning Maiden 1400m

Profusive should have finisher closer when placed first up at Kembla recently. He raced at the tail of the field and only got clear late. He can overrace but runs on strong.

The World Over ran on well when placed over this trip on this track first up and he will be fitter.

Oakfield Midnight shared lead when placed first up here two weeks back and he should run well again.

4 The World Over

2 Oakfield Midnight

Race 4 Newcastle & Lake Macquarie Star Class 1 & Maiden 2340m

Blanco Cara is a promising staying filly well placed under the set weight conditions. The filly bolted in with an 1850 metre Maiden on this track two starts back. In her last appearance, she was only beaten 3 lengths in the Gold Coast Bracelet by Queensland Oaks favourite Dawn Wall.

Kirini was placed at Kembla last start and should appreciate the trip while As Good As It Gets is consistent.

7 Kirini

1 As Good As It Gets

Race 5 Lakes Mail 3yo Fillies Maiden 1200m

Silent Sea is a Godolphin filly which has been placed in all five starts. She resumed after a ten-month spell when beaten a head at Gosford a couple of weeks back. The blinkers go on for the first time and she should break through.

Primavera ran on strong after missing the start by three lengths at Gosford recently and she is a danger.

Bucasia is a former Queenslander which trialled well recently.

9 Silent Sea

7 Primavera

1 Bucasia

Race 6 HepMac Lawyers Class 1 1400m

Al Cabana’s last five starts have been in Highway races at Randwick and Rosehill. He has been narrowly beaten in three of them and he resumes after four months’ spell. He is well weights and his young South African jockey rides well.

Hunter Caulfield has been narrowly beaten in his past two starts at Newcastle and Muswellbrook and he is the likely leader.

King Lear was a five length Mudgee winner recently.

8 Al Cubana

6 Hunter Caulfield

7 King Lear

Race 7 Bridgestone Newcastle Class 1 1400m

Flame Of Love is racing in top form and she has a good barrier and a claim. She beat a smart one first up at Gosford and she raced greenly when narrowly beaten at Kembla. The filly is an on-pace galloper and she will be hard to catch.

Lunar Duchess was narrowly beaten at Rosehill last start and she has a good chance.

Broodwar bolted in at Gosford last start and she is a player.

4 Flame Of Love

9 Lunar Duchess

1 Broodwar

Race 8 Gilbert & Roach Newcastle Benchmark 60 1200m

Thorn In My Side was caught three wide when a close third on this track last start. He will only carry 56 kilograms with the claim and both his wins have been over this distance.

Sadhika is up in class following a recent Tamworth win but she is capable of a bold showing.

Duke wasn’t far away last start on this track and he has claims.
