Newcastle Preview - Saturday 5 May

04.05.18

RACE 1 ASAHI SUPER DRY CLASS 2 2365M

Equipped is a class above this lot and although carrying much more weight than the others, should win. He has been placed on two 2400 metre events at Randwick and Rosehill in February. Equipped was narrowly beaten last start at Hawksbury.

Mister Maker was an easy winner at Taree last start and could fill a place.

Madam Juror is a winner on this track over this trip and she could improve here.

Selections:

1 Equipped

5 Mister Maker

2 Madam Juror

RACE 2 GALLAGHER INSURANCE BROKERS MAIDEN 1200M

Wisdom Trees debut placing at Wyong recently was an eye catcher. She was taken back to the last at the start and the filly stormed home down the short straight. The longer trip and the big track is ideal.

Oakfield Romance was placed at Taree on debut recently and is an exacta chance.

Cortesta has placed twice at Hawksbury recently and should do likewise here.

Selections:

5 Wisdom Tree

4 Oakfield Romance

6 Cortesta

RACE 3 XXXX GOLD MAIDEN 1400M

Expierroment hasn’t raced since a close third behind Amanito in a strong Maiden on this track in December. He has had a recent Randwick trial and he should beat these.

Better Than Elle wasn’t far away first up on the Kensington track two weeks back and she was scratched from Wyong Thursday to be reviewed for this.

Impatience was placed in a Gosford Maiden in March and a couple of weeks back went okay on the Kensington track.

Selections:

1 Expierroment

6 Better Than Elle

3 Impatience

RACE 4 EMERALD VALLEY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1600M

Flying Rose has been frustrating with a lone win and six placings from eight starts. The mare has been close up in much better fields this prep and her only win was over the 1600. She has never been unplaced in four starts on this track.

Strome won two ‘on the trot’ at Goulburn and Kembla before a last start failure at Kembla.

Multimedia has been racing well with two recent placings at Goulburn and Hawksbury.

Selections:

3 Flying Rose

2 Strome

5 Multimedia

RACE 5 CLUB PROJECTS NEWCASTLE MAIDEN PLATE 900M

Olifiants is a fast three-year-old and he will be hard to run down over this short course. He was run down late on this track in November and first up at Moruya on April 10, he led them up before going down by half a length. He should be fitter this time.

Ten Carat is ready to win after two recent placings at Scone and Taree.

Reckless Knight has speed and could place.

Selections:

2 Olifants

4 Ten Carat

3 Reckless Knight

RACE 6 DFK CROSBIE 2 YO MAIDEN PLATE 1400M

Sokudo was beaten three lengths in the Listed Fernhill at Randwick during the Championships. He has been placed in two strong races at Randwick and Warwick farm and he is very well weighted under the conditions.

Rheingau was a length behind Sokudo in the Fernhill and he has raced well on this track two starts back.

Borazon is on debut after a recent Canterbury trial win.

Selections:

9 Sokudo

8 Rheingau

2 Borazon

RACE 7 SQUEALING PIG CG&E BENCHMARK 64 1300M

Dylan’s Dynasty bolted in at Muswellbrook last start and the three-kilogram claim brings him in well. He was only beaten half a length by Osborne Bulls at Gosford last prep.

Juventus is a progressive three-year-old which won first up at Port Macquarie three weeks ago.

Chalmers won two races last prep and he has had two recent trials.

Selections:

1 Dylans Dynasty

3 Juventus

4 Chalmers

RACE 8 SENPOS POINT OF SALE BENCHMARK 67 HANDICAP 1300M

Greater Good went too hard up front when unplaced here last start. She led all the way to win on this track first up and she could prove hard to run down.

Princess Pattern races well here and she loves a soft track if it happens to rain.

Grundalina is close to a win after a last start second.

Selections:

3 Greater Good

1 Princess Pattern

9 Grundalina
