Newcastle Preview – Saturday 2 February

RACE 1 – AUSSIE HAMILTON MAIDEN PLATE 1860M

Alier has been knocking on the door and this is a winnable race for the 3-year-old. He has been placed in his past two starts at Gosford and he hasn’t been far away in all six starts.

Estroverto should’ve finished closer at Kembla last start and he will appreciate the longer trip.

I’m Kate will run the trip and has a chance.

Selections:

2 Alier

3 Estroverto

6 I’m Kate

RACE 2 – HUNTER VALLEY GRANITE & MARBLE CLASS 2 1600M

Nothing Too Hard came with a winning run from last on the turn last start here on Boxing Day. First up two weeks earlier the four-year-old stormed home to just miss in a big field at Scone. He has a good record here on this track where he unwinds, down the long straight.

Oakfield Captain’s only two wins have been on this track and he is racing well.

Maid Marilyn is a front runner which won in this track on December 2.

Selections:

3 Nothing Too Hard

1 Oakfield Captain

2 Maid Marilyn

RACE 3 – SAGE PAINTING MAIDEN PLATE 1500M

Nicoya has her foot on the till after three placings this preparation. During December the mare finished strongly for placings over 1400 on this track. Last start she stormed home for a close third at Nowra after a slow start and wide run.

Elusive Nature had no luck when beaten 2.7 lengths on the Kensington track last start and she has a chance.

Breakdance is a Kiwi having his first start for Waller on the back of a quiet trial.

Selections:

6 Nicoya

7 Elusive Nature

1 Breakdance

RACE 4 – HM CONVEYANCING MAIDEN PLATE 900M

Chilled Rose is a fast-short course filly drawn well and set for a first up win. Her only start in May resettled her in a close second to the flying king on this track. She was most impressive in a brilliant trial win at Warwick Farm recently.

Airwing is on debut and he displayed natural speed to win a trial eased down on the Beaumont track recently.

Nivalis has been placed in all three starts on this track.

Selections:

6 Chilled Rose

2 Airwing

9 Nivalis

RACE 5 – ALLIED PICKFORDS MAIDEN 1200M

Paulo Pace raced greenly when only beaten a length on debut at Kembla two weeks ago. He won a barrier trial prior to that run and will appreciate the 1200m.

Eokalio rattled home when narrowly beaten at Nowra first up and he will appreciate the long straight.

Arrogante has won two trials and he has drawn soft.

Selections:

3 Paulo Pace

4 Eokalio

1 Arrogante

RACE 6 – CONSTRUCTIONLINK BENCHMARK 64 1860M

An open race with South Coast stayer Red Dubawi a good chance. The eight-year-old was placed first up on the Kensington track on New Years Day before he finished strongly when fourth at Canterbury last start.

Seababe has been close up in recent starts in town and has a good record on this track.

Flagpoles can improve on her first up run.

Selections:

6 Red Dubawi

3 Seababe

2 Flagpoles

RACE 7 – THE BURWOOD INN NEWCASTLE NOBBYS 1600M

Judge Judy has a good record and she was untroubled to lead all the way at Gosford last start. The mare just missed first up at Gosford and from the rails draw she won’t be far off the pace.

Invicta is ready to show his best form after two runs this prep and the Newcastle ‘Mile’ is ideal.

Bezel was stiff last start at Kembla and he has a soft draw.

Selections:

4 Judge Judi

5 Invicta

3 Bezel

RACE 8 – ALICIA FROST & KATE STREATFIELD BENCHMARK 641400M

Alnaas is ready to win after two creditable performances this prep. She was tightened at the 500 when beaten half a length at Canterbury last start and first up she ran on strong again at Canterbury.

Tycoon Streets run two starts back when runner up on the Kensington tack was good enough to win this.

Lions Head was unlucky when runner up at Kembla last start.

Selections:

6 Alnaas

2 Tycoon Street

4 Lions Head
