Newcastle Nobbys

Newcastle’s iconic landmark Nobbys Lighthouse is the ‘namesake’ of a new race being introduced by Newcastle Jockey Club that will be run at every Saturday meeting beginning July 7 – with prizemoney of $35,000 which is $5,000 above standard provincial prizemoney.

The class and distance of the Nobbys will vary from meeting to meeting as programmed by Racing NSW, but horses will need to have had at least four starts at provincial and country meetings in Australia (as recognised by Racing NSW) in the 12 months before the date of nomination. Newcastle Nobbys is aimed at any trainer, from any location, providing their horses meet the conditions. Newcastle Racecourse has a variety of starting points. Uniquely, the 900m, 1500m and 1850m starts are the least replicated of other provincial clubs and form a point of difference for the Newcastle Nobbys concept.

The inaugural Newcastle Nobbys on Saturday July 7 will be a Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1400m.

Newcastle Nobbys programmed for August:
Saturday 11th August Benchmark 70, 900m
Saturday 25th August Benchmark 70, 1200m
