Cessnock Preview - Monday 4 June

01.06.18

Former champion jockey Wayne Harris rode scores of winners at Cessnock during his apprenticeship and the Newcastle Hunter Hall Of Famer returns to the Wine Country track on Monday to cheer on his 3 year old Khitaamy in the IGA Liquor Maiden (900m).

Harris is a part owner of the former Victorian which has raced three times under the care of Gosford trainer Carmen Murnane. Khitaamy was runner up in a strong Wyong Maiden on April 19. Last start at Gosford on May 26, the gelding was beaten less than a length after leading to the shadow of the post. He has natural speed and the 900-metre trip is ideal.

RACE 1 NJC PINK RACEDAY CLASS 2 1150M

Tootz is a filly with genuine speed and she is in good form. A winner first up at Taree on April 23, Tootz was narrowly beaten at Gunnedah last Sunday. She has drawn well and may lead these.

Silent Dream had fine record on this track and she was narrowly beaten on this track last start in January.

Dark Elixir has good record on this track.

Selections:

1 Tootz

5 Silent Dream

8 Dark Elixir

RACE 2 XXX GOLD 3YO MAIDEN 1150M

Through The Cracks was heavily backed on debut at Muswellbrook recently and he put the writing on the wall. After a slow start the three-year-old came from near last on the turn to finish fourth 1.36 lengths from the winner. The extra 100 metres is in his favour but he has to overcome a tricky barrier.

Another Sonette was disappointing when an odds on favourite and unplaced at Gunnedah recently. He trailed nicely before that run.

Restless is racing well and has a chance.

Selections:

3 Through The Cracks

1 Another Sonette

8 Restless

RACE 3 CESSNOCK ADVERTISER MAIDEN PLATE 1350M

All Ellie was a ‘good thing’ beaten at Quirindi last start on May 18. She was badly held up for a run in the straight until the race was over. This filly was beaten half a length in a very strong Newcastle Maiden three starts back.

Dollarina has been racing in stronger company and has a chance while Lexiloo should run well.

Selections:

6 All Ellie

7 Dollarina

9 Lexiloo

RACE 4 ADAM FAULKNER 50TH BENCHMARK 65 2125M

The Bohemian is on a quick back up after a close fifth at Gosford on May 26. He is a solid stayer with recent placings at Muswellbrook and in an open race he is a big player.

Marman went okay when runner up at Newcastle last start and he comes in well at the weights.

Latin Light is racing well and he has good form on this track.

Selections:

6 The Bohemian

1 Marman

5 Latin Light

RACE 5 CESSNOCK LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 3 1570M

Lady Evelyn has a win and a second from two starts on this track and both runs was since a spell have been creditable. The mare has an ideal barrier and RT rides. She has won on this track over the distance with the champ in the saddle.

Sleepwalker has two good recent provincial placings to his credit and he may lead.

Doosey has raced well here in the past and has a chance.

Selections:

3 Lady Evelyn

1 Sleepwalker

2 Doosey

RACE 6 IGA LIQUOR MAIDEN 900M

Khitaamy is a fast 3-year-old suited by the short course. He led when beaten less than a length at Gosford last start. He was runner up at Wyong three starts back. With only the one turn, the barrier should not be a problem.

Calamity Mo went okay first up at Taree and he has trialled since.

Foxy Queen is first up and she has a new trainer. She has speed and a solid first up record.

Selections:

1 Khitaamy

8 Calamity Mo

4 Foxy Queen
