Newcastle Preview- 20.09.19

Race 1-  Macca’s Sand & Soil 3YO Benchmark 64 Handicap 1600m

Mocambo has a big weight but is the class runner. He was outclassed first up at Randwick and last prep he won two on the trot at Warwick Farm and Kembla. Mocambo has won second up and he will run a strong mile.

Colada led all the way for an easy Canterbury win last start and he is a big player.

Fast Melody was run down late when favourite at Hawkesbury last start and he has a place chance.

Selections:

1- Mocambo

2- Colada

5- Fast Melody

Race 2-  Greenway Turf Solutions CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m

Canyonero has had plenty of chances but this is a winnable race for him. He made up good ground when beaten a length at Gosford first up and he was placed in his only start here. The rails barrier will allow Canyonero to settle midfield and run on down the long straight.

Elgin is another that has struggled to win but his recent trials suggest he is ready to win first up.

Amiens was narrowly beaten at Canberra on debut and he has since won a trial.

Selections:

1- Canyonero

2- Elgin

3- Amiens

Race 3- NBN News F&M Maiden Plate 1200m

Akari resumes here after two starts last prep in which she was placed behind Libertini both times. She was only beaten two lengths in a listed Race at the Scone Cup carnival in May and she ran on well in a recent trial when held together.

Mirra Vision is on debut after showing speed in two recent trial wins at Randwick. She has the rails barrier and may lead.

Sunsuzie is racing okay and has place prospects.

Selections:
4- Akari

9- Mirra Vision

3- Sunsuzie

Race 4- Rarity Wholesale Benchmark 64 Handicap 2300m

Toulouse is in good form and he looks hard to beat. He was beaten a head over 2400m at Canterbury three starts back.

Urbino has been beaten as an odds-on favourite in his only two Australian starts but he should run well here.

Plucky George has a chance.

Selections:

6- Toulouse

9- Urbino

12- Plucky George

Race 5 – Australian Bloodstock Cameron Handicap 1500m

Con Te Partiro was narrowly beaten first up in the Show County. Last prep she won the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic at Scone and she was only beaten 1 ½ lengths in the Group 2 Dane Ripper at Eagle Farm. She is a strong finisher and she will love the long straight.

Wrens Day had no luck when three wide with no cover in his first Australian start. He has since trialled well and the blinkers go on.

Rock is the up and comer with a fine record and he will be storming home from the back.

Selections:

5- Con Te Partiro

6- Wren’s Day

14- Rock

Race 6- Hungerford Hill Wines Benchmark 64 handicap 1200m

Hit the Target was a bit fresh when a close fourth in a Randwick Highway first up. He is a winner second up and he races best with the sting out on the ground. Promising apprentice Chris Williams will claim 2 kilograms and Hit the Target will probably race on the pace.

Pandano raced in the first two when narrowly beaten on this track last start and he is ready to win.

Texas Storm came from last when fourth in a strong race here first up recently.

Selections:

2- Hit the Target

9- Pandano

4- Texas Storm

Race 7- Sharp Electronics Group Newcastle Gold Cup 2300m

Kris Lees has a strong hand and the favourite Our Candidate is his best chance. The Irish import has been in devastating form with three wins and a second from his past four stars. He has blitzed his rivals in his past two starts at Randwick and Rosehill. He is very well weighted and is a winner over 2400m.

Stablemate Red Cardinal has been trialling well and if the track is soft his prospects will be enhanced.

Japanese stayer Hush Writer was runner up in the Wyong Cup and he is an on-pace stayer.

Selections:

16- Our Candidate

1- Red Cardinal

8- Hush Writer

Race 8- Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes 1400m

Canberra mare Notation is a quality four-year-old with outstanding metropolitan form. She had no luck when beaten 2.7 lengths in the Toy Show at Randwick, and the mare should have won the Wyong Mona Lisa when beaten a length after racing three wide outside the leaders. She has a soft draw and should box seat.

Pohutukawa is very smart and she resumes after being placed in the group 1 Tatts Tiara and Group 2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm in June.

Con Te Partiro if reserved for this race will be strong late.

Selections:

9- Notation

2- Pohutukawa

1- Con Te Partiro
