The gate opening time and first race time vary between race days. The gate opening time will be at least 1 hour prior to the first race. The first race time will be released on the Thursday morning prior to the races (Saturday race meet). For confirmation of gate opening and first race time, please call us 02 4961 1573

What is your address?

Broadmeadow Racecourse is located on Darling Street in Broadmeadow, Newcastle, NSW 2292.

There is only one vehicle entrance, directly off Darling Street.

Can I bring alcohol into the races?

Newcastle Jockey Club is a fully licensed and you are not permitted to bring alcohol into the venue. There are ample facilities provided to purchase alcoholic beverages on the day. NJC will thoroughly check all goods / bags / eskies prior to entering the course. Newcastle Jockey Club practises responsible service of alcohol.

Can I bring food into the races?

Patrons are permitted to bring picnic style food and snacks onto the course including finger foods and non-perishable items.

Disposable or plastic cutlery only. No metal cutlery or knives of any sort are permitted onto the course.

Patrons may only consume their picnics in open spaces and grassed areas and NOT in our pre-booked function and dining areas including;

  • The Pavilion Room;
  • Swish Bar, History Bar, The Loft and Directors Suite;
  • Chevals Restaurant;
  • Member's Lounge;
  • Mark Murphy Lounge;
  • Courtyard Room;
  • Broadmeadow Bar;
  • Marquees – both permanent and temporary.

Parking?

There is ample free car parking on the racecourse grounds.

What do I wear?

Entry to the general admission areas of the racecourse requires guests to be neatly dressed. Shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times.

Members' Enclosure minimum dress standards

Gentlemen - smart-casual clothing including:

  • Collared shirt
  • Dress trousers or jeans (no tracksuits)
  • Appropriate enclosed footwear

Note: gentlemen are allowed dress shorts with appropriate footwear during daylight savings.

Ladies are expected to wear smart race attire.

Children must be suitably attired including footwear.

Roy Mahony Lounge and Chevals (first floor of Members' area) minimum dress standards/

 

Gentlemen - smart casual clothing including:

  • Collared shirt
  • Dress trousers (no jeans or short pants)
  • Dress shoes and socks (no joggers - any shoes with logo or mesh are classed as joggers)

Ladies are expected to wear smart race attire.

Children must be suitably attired including footwear.

Denim clothing is unsuitable for both gentlemen and ladies.

Can I reserve outdoor tables?

The outdoor tables and chairs are freely available to all general admission guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I have my bucks party at the Newcastle Jockey Club?

No, Newcastle Jockey Club is a licensed venue and a condition of this license prohibits entry for the purposes of "bucks" party/functions. Patrons entering the course for the purpose of group functions will be required to declare the purpose of the function by completing a Function Disclaimer Form.

Can I bring my children to the races? Are there any restrictions?

Newcastle Jockey Club is a licensed venue. No minors are allowed on the premises unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. A wristband system is in place, whereby all guardians to wear a yellow G wristband and their minors a yellow M wristband - these will be issued at front gate. The parent or guardian must accompany all children under the age of 18 entering the venue at all times.

Children under 18 years receive complimentary admission.

Children within the Members' Enclosure must be suitably attired.

There are no restricted areas within the racecourse, however children under the age of 18 are not allowed to approach any beverage outlets or the saddling enclosure.

Smoking?

NJC is a public spectator venue and is subject to venue smoking laws. Smoking will only be permitted in Designated Smoking Areas which are clearly signed on selected back lawn areas. Fines will be issued by Health Officials to those caught smoking in non smoking areas.

Where is lost property?

Lost property is kept at the main raceday office before being transfered to the reception area for collection. Lost property items are stored for a period of 3 months and will then be donated to charity. All enquiries regarding lost property should be directed to 02 4961 1573.

Is there public transport available after the races?

There is a taxi rank on Darling Street, outside the main entry. NJC also organises free buses to transport patrons to Hamilton Train Station usually 15 – 25 minutes after our last race. Please note that drop-off's to licensed venues is strictly not permitted.

Can I purchase 'Member Stand' tickets if I am not a member?

Members and Non-members can purchase a Member stand ticket. These are available in advance by calling 4961 1573 or you can buy them on the day. See our Admission Fees for more information

Can I reserve a table in the Members' lounge?

Yes, reservations should be made prior to the racedays by phoning the club on 02 4961 1573. Payment is required at the time of booking. Find out more about our lounges including dining options.
