Gary Harley – Preview – 16.07.24

Race 1 – Davali Thoroughbreds Benchmark 64 Handicap 2200m

Chateau Park is a strong stayer and is a winner over this trip. He made up many lengths from the home turn when beaten 3.36 lengths over a much shorter trip here last start.

Dreamdeel is ultra consistent with a win and two seconds from his past three starts and he is a leader with a 3kg claim. Rapid Impact has good country form.

Selections:        4 – Chateau Park         1 – Dreamdeel 8 – Rapid Impact

Race 2 – Hungerford Hill Wines Provincial Maiden Handicap 1600m

Monty Be Quick has raced too keen in his two Australian starts and he is well placed here. He was impressive in an easy barrier trial win in May, and he had no favours first up at Hawkesbury.

Rathoran has been placed in his past two starts in the country and Faye Runaway has a chance.

Selections:       1 – Monty Be Quick                 2 – Rathoran                3 – Faye Runaway

Race 3 – New Zealand Bloodstock 3yo & Up CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m

Dumebi found the trip too short when fifth first up at Warwick Farm on June 26. The colt was narrowly beaten first up at Canterbury in May last year and he will appreciate the 1200m and long straight. Ash Morgan rides from a nice barrier.

Beauty Edge was a distant third on debut at Canterbury recently when green in the straight and will be fitter. Ramius went okay when fourth first up here on June 29.

Selections:       3 – Dumebi                  1 – Beauty Edge           6 – Ramius

Race 4 – Horsepower 3yo & Up F&M Maiden Plate 1200m

Sharpen The Knives has put the writing on the wall with runner up performances in both starts this preparation. She is an on pacer with a gear change and barrier one. Jean Van Overmeire has ridden five winners in the past two Newcastle meetings, and he has the mount.

Mountain Top has trialled well, and Flyin’ The Pin was okay on debut.

Selections:       9 – Sharpen The Knives 3 – Mountain Top         1 – Flyin’ The Pin

Race 5 – Sharp Office F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap 1400m

Zarrose is resuming and had good enough form last preparation for this race. She was placed at Warwick Farm in January and was only beaten two lengths in a Benchmark 72 at Rosehill in February. She worked home nicely in a recent barrier trial.

Angel Down had two wins and a second in her first preparation and she resumes after two trials. Spicy Hotpot is racing well and is a winner here.

Selections:       3 – Zarrose                  2 – Angel Down                       6 – Spicy Hotpot

Race 6 – Lees Racing Maiden Plate 1400m

Customized was disappointing first up but if he produces his two-year-old form he will be hard to beat. He was third, less than a length behind Storm Boy in the Group 3 Bruce McLachlan at Eagle Farm in December. Before a spell the colt was fourth in a Rosehill 2yo event.

Blue Tongue was placed here on debut recently while Amaretto Bo was narrowly beaten at Goulburn second up.

Selections:       11 – Customized          9 – Blue Tongue           13 – Amoretto Bo

Race 7 – Strathayr CG&E Benchmark 64 Handicap 1400m

Worx is a very quick three-year-old and after leading was nailed on the line at Kembla last start with 60.5kg on his back. He was only beaten a length at Canterbury two starts back and he won a Newcastle Class 1 in May. Zac Wadick will claim 2kg so Worx will once again carry 60.5kg.

Amicus Curiae has a wide barrier but is in good form while Malabar had sound city form last preparation.

Selections:       1 – Worx          5 – Amicus Curiae                    7 – Malabar

Race 8 – The Prince Of Merewether Midway Class 1 Handicap 1200m

Hell’s Itch bolted in with a Maiden on this track on June 22 after being heavily backed. He should have a nice run off the speed from the rails barrier and he can unwind.

Maz Kanata travelled wide with no cover when beaten less than a length here last start and draws a nice barrier. Villa Tino won well first up at Wyong.

Selections:       3 – Hell’s Itch               10 – Maz Kanata                     6 – Villa Tino
