Sharp Electronics Group Newcastle Gold Cup Preview – Friday 14 September

RACE 1 MACKA’S SOIL & SAND BENCHMARK 64 2300M

Former Kiwi Whangamata was impressive in an easy Newcastle win on August 25. He led from the 400 and raced away in the straight. He carries 3kgs more here, but this is another winnable race.

Former German galloper Ocean Walzer looked good winning at Swan Hill last start and the trip is no problem.

Chain Of Fools was runner up on the Kensington track last start and has a chance.

Selections:

1 Whangamata

2 Ocean Walzer

3 Chain Of Fools

RACE 2 SIMPLOT PARTNERS CLASS 2 1600M

Girl Tuesday is a blueblood mare which was very impressive in winning by 2 ½ lengths on debut on this track recently. She came from near last on the home turn with a whirlwind finish and the longer trip is ideal.

So Bizarre has won twice recently at Wyong and is an on pacer.

Cinderconi was placed in a strong race on Wyong Cup day.

Selections:

2 Girl Tuesday

1 So Bizarre

6 Cinderconi

RACE 3 NBN NEWS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

Sir Owen was a $1.75 chance in his only start at Warwick Farm on May 30. He was back last at the 800 before storming home to finish third, beaten a length. He won a Randwick trial by 6 ½ lengths on August 28 and won a Wyong trial by 1 ½ lengths on Monday.

Stablemate Shinju was a good thing beaten at Wyong last start after never seeing daylight in the straight.

CÉst Davinchi resumes after finishing second in his past four starts.

Selections:

13 Sir Owen

12 Shinju

2 Cést Davinchi

RACE 4 ADVANCED PEST CONTROL F&M MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

Galina has outstanding credentials for this race. The filly was beaten 2 lengths in the Jimcrack and after a spell she had three starts at Rosehill, Warwick Farm and Randwick and a length was the furthest she was from the winner.

Infinitely Perfect was heavily backed when runner up on debut at Wyong and should have benefited from the run.

Oakfield Romance races well here but can’t draw a decent barrier.

Selections:

10 Galina

3 Infinitley Perfect

4 Oakfield Romance

RACE 5 HUNGERFORD HILL WINES SPRING STAKES 1600M

Aramoyo has performed well in all three starts to date. The colt came from well back when beaten half a length at Kembla on debut. He then went to Canterbury and bolted in before a solid fourth in Group 3 company last start.

Outrageous is suited by the ‘mile’ after two runs back and he is a winner on the track.

Sunreel bolted in last start on the track and cannot be underestimated.

Selections:

2 Aramayo

1 Outrageous

11 Sunreel

RACE 6 YARRAMAN PARK TIBBIE STAKES 1400M

Savatiano is a brilliant mare chasing four wins on the trot. First up in the Wyong Mona Lisa two weeks back she overcame a horror draw to win impressively. The mare has drawn the car park, but she has speed to burn.

Princess Posh wasn’t far away in the Mona Lisa and she is drawn nicely.

Irithea is in career best form and she was placed in the Mona Lisa last start.

Selections:

2 Savatiano

3 Princess Posh

4 Irithea

RACE 7 SHARP ELECTRONICS GROUP NEWCASTLE GOLD CUP 2300M

Carzoff is flying this prep and his Wyong Cup win was superb. He was near last on the turn and when the split came in the straight he stormed home. He was very unlucky two starts back and the longer trip won’t be a problem.

Goathland has had two runs back and he was a little more than a length away last start.

Harper’s Choice had excuses at Wyong and he is an on pacer with a chance.

Selections:

3 Carzoff

12 Goathland

5 Harpers Choice

RACE 8 AUSTRALIAN BLOODSTOCK CAMERON HANDICAP 1500M

Prized Icon hasn’t won a race for a long time but he is very well placed in this race. He is well weighted for a Group 1 winner and has the rails barrier. He has had two runs from a spell and is ready to win.

Best Of Days is flying since coming from England and his last start win was outstanding.

Tom Melbourne will run well.

Selections:

4 Prized Icon

15 Best Of Days

5 Tom Melbourne
