Saturday 26 August is the Girl Friday Race Day at Newcastle Racecourse!
Girl Friday is a Newcastle based not-for-profit charity providing practical assistance to women and children fleeing domestic violence. Working closely with local refuges, Girl Friday donates essential personal and household items to women who find themselves in desperate situations, and often with no possessions aside from the clothes they and their children are wearing.
But really, Girl Friday represents so much more than the goods they donate. Underpinning the Girl Friday philosophy is an unwavering belief that every woman is worthy of genuine support and deserves to feel nurtured, valued and capable of moving forward.
Founded in 2012, Girl Friday favours fundraising via fun, social events where friendship and community spirit can shine. Kathie, Michelle and Sandra firmly believe that friendships, new and old, are key to maintaining positive mental health and cultivating strong, caring communities. Their annual flagship events; the Girl Friday Luncheon and Girl Friday Race Day, provide wonderful opportunities for women to connect, have fun and contribute to ending domestic violence.
Girl Friday has a positive and collaborative relationship with local women’s refuges and an ability to provide tangible assistance, often at very short notice and without the red tape. With a growing network of supporters eager to help, the Girl Friday team can source items as needed simply by alerting followers via social media and making a few phone calls.
