Vale Charlie Porter

    The Newcastle Jockey Club was saddened to learn of the passing of former long term Newcastle trainer Charlie Porter on January 4. He was 89.

    Born at Cowra in 1935 Charlie was 34 years old when he moved to Newcastle and purchases a home at Adamstown. He was a successful trainer for decades with Framoli one of his best horses winning the 16987 Scone Cup and two at Randwick. Lamarna won close to thirty races and Mon De Arl was a prolific winner including two at Randwick during the 90’s.

    Champion jockey Robert Thompson rode more winners for Charlie than any other jockey.

    A celebration of Charlies life will be held at Reflections Chapel 36A Glendale Drive, Glendale on Monday January 13 at 2.30pm
